I was just intrigued with Richard Vance's knowledge about organ rolls.
To my mind, that was really a great article.

The Aeolian Organ rolls were cut at 28 punches/inch. But as Richard
mentions, there are important variations designed to account for organ
music and the delays expected from organ  pipes. They hang in there and
keep playing, when a regular player piano would be changing notes. So
to make the performance sound realistic, they shorten the note, and the
pipe then goes ahead and elongates it-- as they already knew it would--
and thus they have a realistic-sounding performance.

Richard obviously has an innate ability to nail the basic principle and
define what it is that we should be looking for. I hope that everybody
who wants to understand perforating details would take his last letter
to heart, because, frankly, that's really right!  It's what all the
perforating companies did-- and, how they did it. Thanks, Richard.
