"Shoot the Piano Player"

Perhaps Mr. Grayson didn't realize that making a punched paper roll,
and then realizing it on a pedal player, was even a possibility.  And
that includes the gunshots.

I've often thought of doing a more "modern" O-roll to be played on my
machine -- something using fractal composition, for instance.  The bass
and snare drums blink when "struck", and it wouldn't be that hard to
attach other lights to other gizmos.   In addition, there are two
unused ports in the bar to synchronize other effects.

The only other problem would be to then set up the machine in a concert
hall so an audience could watch.  (That would require an Arts grant,
and the US Gum'ment isn't giving them out to individuals any more.)

Ahh, to be in a university setting...
