Photo of Kastner Kastonome Roll
By Adam G. Ramet

178 hole bar? No, what about a 243-hole bar! It's the same plus a
65-note row.

I put more roll pictures on my site just the other day, including a
picture of a Kastonome roll which plays on the 178-hole style bar
described in MMD yesterday. Each hole accents one of the 88 notes in
the unique Kastonome system. In the text you can click on a link to
see a picture from the original manual for this range of instruments.
It shows the dual-tracker 243-hole version spoolbox and its "Etronome"
glass plate tempo guide as I have described in the text there, along
with a picture of a Triphonola roll, Artrio Angelus, Green Welte,
Empeco, 88-note Autograph-Metrostyle and a few other weird and
wonderfuls not often seen (and some ordinaries too), and all of which
can be found at http://website.lineone.net/~agr/rolls/rollscan2.html

At the bottom of the page you can also go back to see the first page
of rolls of different types. The idea is just so folk can see some
rolls that they may not have seen before. I add a few every month or
so as I get round to it! Enjoy!

Incidentally, I believe that the Player Piano Group in the UK will be
running a piece on Kastner and Kastonome in the forthcoming December
issue, so look out a copy in due course -- or better still join up and
get your own!

Best regards

Adam Ramet
