Transposing Pianos
By Philip Jamison

Irving Berlin's piano may have been specially made, but transposing
uprights did have a market. I've seen three in just my area. I forget
the make, but they were all by the same U.S. company: uprights of good
quality, which shifted using a lever under the keybed. The cheek
blocks were hollowed to prevent a gap.
