Too Loud, Too Talkative
By George Bogatko

Which is why I _love it_ when my machine starts up. It has enough
presence that those who actually _want_ to hear the music it produces
don't have to struggle around all the noise from the chirpers and
babblers. For once in their empty lives, they have to actually shut
up until the music is over.

The look on their face is priceless as they realize that they cannot
deprive others of their listening pleasure. Their pointless intru-
sions, shouted vainly over the music, are rendered into appropriately
superfluous background noise.

I recently had the pleasure of using a line (that I've saved up for
the occasion) on such a chirper. The question, when the tune was over,
was, "How do you turn it down?" The answer (as the next tune was
starting) was, "You leave the room!"

It was wonderful !
