Mechanical Music Fatality at the Post Office
By Karl Ellison

Friday morning radio news item: Millennium Terrorism

On Thursday, a package arrived at the Sandwich, Massachusetts post
office from Germany, where the return postage label did not match the
shipping label. When the "box of candy" (as the customs declaration
showed) was x-rayed, it was found to contain a device with wires. A
bomb-squad was called and the package was safely exploded, after which
the contents was found to be ... a music box.

Another jeopardy of mis-declaring foreign shipments of mechanical
music items. Someone's surely out of a lot of money. I wouldn't be
surprised if, given the sensitive nature of German packages to the US,
that the intended recipient received a visit from a U.S. Federal
official asking who/what/when/where questions. I wouldn't think
anything is left to chance for the next few weeks.

What's next? Ampico owners: drop your drawers for inspection?
