Player Mechanism in a Drawer
By Dean Randall

Mr. Firman wrote in MMD 000111 asking what sorts of player piano
mechanisms would have the entire mechanism within the drawer. It is
not an Ampico nor a Welte mechanism if the stack and/or expression
devices are in the drawer.

Only three possibilities come to mind. They would be Angelus Artrio,
(built by Simplex) the late Simplex Recordo and the late Recordo from
AutoPneumatic. If there were others, I don't believe I've encountered
them. The pump and pedal pneumatics are still under the piano as
usual, but the expression mechanisms and the stack are in the drawer.

I suspect that the piano contains a Recordo mechanism. When you see
it, the tracker-bar should identify it instantly.

Somehow, I have my doubts... How thick _is_ the platinum plating on
the case? ;-)
