Web Sites With 1920's & 30's Music
By Dick Merchant

There are a number of Web Sites where you can listen to the music
of that era. I prefer sites using streaming Real Audio as there's
a very short download time. Real Audio is not considered to be very
high fidelity, but neither are 78 rpm records. I find the sound
quality about what we used to get listening to the 78 rpm records
played on electric phonographs of the 1940's and am quite happy with
that. Most of these sites can be found on the Phonograph Ring,

  http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=phonograph&list

or just plug the word, "phonograph" in you handy Yahoo search engine
on your browser. There's also places in the Ring where the have MP3
files. With the exception of http://www.redhotjazz.com/bands.html,
the following are all from the Ring:

  http://dismuke.simplenet.com/
  http://musik.freepage.de/schellack/index.html
  http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/4264/

I've been pulling up one or the other of these sites and listening to
a few records almost every night for months. Happy listening.
