Mystery Wood Type in Player Piano Actions

Mike,  have you considered red alder?  I've had good luck with it
for pneumatic and reservoir boards because it is very light yet strong.
It does have a pinkish color and it is soft after sanding.  I don't
know how it would do with small action pieces, though.
