Replying to Ken Slow's posting in 000401 MMD.  I think that it is
a pity that you can not yet get recuts of Red (T-100) Welte rolls.
Prior to his death I purchased from Claes Friberg a number of rolls
but I was unhappy with the cutting.

I purchased two test rolls from Mike Kitner: one is more of a proper
set-up roll, while the other is rather basic, to say the least.  Last
year I bought a set of 15 rolls from MMM in Ruedesheim operated by a
Mr. Wendel.  I do not know if they have or plan to cut further rolls.
The recutting of these seems excellent, but obviously without the
original to lay against it it proves rather difficult to judge.

Having restored two keyboardless T-100 Weltes it seems Mr. Slow is
under the impression that you tune from the roll.  In fact that is
wrong: the back comes out of the piano and originally you slotted
a small keyboard in.

In my experience the main problem is the proper regulation of the
piano's action not the tuning as without proper regulation _no_
reproducing piano can reproduce !
