Infamous Piano Moves
By Richard Twichell

Hello, Friends,

My name is Dick Twichell and my long-time but moribund interest in
mechanical music has been rekindled by "discovering" MMD on the web.
Time to finish that built-up "O" roll instrument in the basement and
get the reproducers in the living room tuned!

The recent thread concerning disastrous piano moves recalled my first
over enthusiastic foray into the world of Fat Pianos... I bought a
Haines Ampico upright without measuring the stairway to my 2nd floor
apartment... No excuse, because a large refrigerator had become wedged
in the bend in that stairway for 3 days when I moved in initially! With
the piano, I was "saved" by a 2nd floor porch and a friend with a
crane. When it came time to buy a house, my first requirement was a
wide entrance with a straight shot to the living room. Still had
trouble getting that "O" roll build-up into the basement, though...

Here's a photo of the "rescue" of the Haines...

Feel free to put it on the site if you like...

Regards,
Dick

[ Dick, That's a great picture. Thanks for the permission. We
[ will put it on the website. --Jody
