Richard Wagner Music for 1876 Exposition
By Philip Jamison

Wagner was no stranger to making the extra dollar -- he also accepted
a commission to write "The Centennial March" to commemorate the U.S.
1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. This was a distinct
"non-masterpiece". I've never seen it on a roll.

Philip Jamison

[ The Dictionary of Musicians, by Deems Taylor (ed. 1939), says that
[ opera composer Richard Wagner indeed composed several commemorative
[ pieces, including one named "Festival March" for the Centennial
 [ Exposition, Philadelphia, 1876. -- Robbie
