Turntable for 78 RPM Records
By Joyce Brite

In MMD 1999.04.04, I wrote that I was searching for a turntable that
would play 78 RPM records. Since then, I've had several people inquire
concerning what I was able to find. This is a follow-up to those
inquiries.

Last weekend, I was at a local second-hand store which had a number of
stereo components on hand. I told the clerk what I was looking for
and, after moving the electronic flotsam and jetsam around, we located
a small JVC receiver/turntable unit with a 78-RPM setting hiding in
back. After testing the unit to ensure that it worked, I purchased it.

At home, I mated the receiver/turntable with a pair of speakers given
to me by a neighbor and tried out the system. It worked beautifully!
After years of being without a 78-RPM turntable, it was very gratifying
to hear my 78's again.

Total cost of the turntable unit: $12.00. Quite a bargain in terms
of satisfaction received.
