Dow Corning #733 Silicon Rubber Sealant
By Randy

Pete Knobloch wrote, "I know that many restorers say that there is no
place for this type of product in the player piano."

I have to say that recently I had the experience of seeing what appears
to be that stuff (red in color) smeared all over every joint and pipe
foot on an organ rebuilt around 1989 by a well known East Coast builder
who I won't mention.

All I can say is, it looked like hell. It looked like sloppy careless
workmanship done by someone who didn't give a damn and just globbed
the stuff everywhere. I used to think rather highly of the builder
'til I saw that and a few other things, like hardware store bought
wooden ladders made into organ ladders, which still retained their ugly
original shipping labels from the hardware store to the builder. Geez!

I think if someone is going to glob sealer all over everything at least
use something clear; neatly, minimal amounts and preferably on the
_inside_ where it doesn't show or look like a kid with a peanut butter
and jelly sandwich was playing in the organ!
