Playing Piano Rolls On A Pipe Organ
By Philip Underwood

Hello All, Normally I just enjoy the list but this topic draws me out
of lurker land.

I have a Wurlitzer theatre organ that was designed to play both 88-note
piano rolls and Wurlitzer concert rolls. The organ will play standard
88-note rolls fine, providing you keep the registration simple.

Some rolls will never sound good, and some will. The polka and other
similar rolls actually sound quite good.

Wurlitzer and several other companies made these organs to play these
rolls. Since (I believe) the original post was about adding a player
to a pipe organ, from experience I would say "Do it!" Let your ears be
your guide and have fun.
