Mechanical Music Museum in Israel
By Brian Chesters

Hello Yitzchak, I was interested to hear the proposal you had about
the Mechanical Music Museum in Israel (MMD 00.12.26). If you have to
do this with a low budget then I have a suggestion.

At the moment, player pianos, or "pianolas" as we tend to call them
in the UK, can be bought in non-working but good condition for under
GBP 200, and in non-working but average condition, for under GBP 100.
For working order you can add GBP 150 to each price.

It is therefore quite possible to fill a 20-foot container with fifteen
player pianos for under GBP 2000. When displayed in a large room or
hall, the "Museum" instantly looks full. The space can be filled up
further with large cabinet wind-up phonographs or Gramophones at an
average cost of 200 GBP each. You would then have to find a variety
of approximately 10 instruments to actually play, and there you have
a museum on the cheap. If you need any help in locating these, let me
know.
