"De Waterpoorter" 89-key Gavioli Organ
By Jim Westcott

I first ran across the "De Waterpoorter" Gavioli organ in two LPs that
were part of Louis Suierveld's band organ record collection. The first
record, which had a Dutch windmill pictured on the jacket, had so much
pump noise that it was useless. The second one was excellent and made
a very good CD.

The first tune on the record is "Immer Lustig". It quickly became my
favorite band organ tune. Of the 50 or so band organs featured in
Louie's collection, the "Waterpoorter" is my favorite. I have since
acquired the two new CDs mentioned in Dave Haibach's piece (see MMD
020103, same subject).

The organ is owned by Dr. William P. Murphy, Jr., of Florida. The
last time I contacted him the organ was not for sale, but he did have
a steam calliope for sale. The calliope was at one time installed on a
Mississippi riverboat. It is my understanding that Dr. Murphy also
owns "Small Parts, Inc." which sells the two CDs of the organ. Their
address is given in Dave Haibach's contribution.

Best Regards, Jim Westcott
