Antique Steam & Gas Engine Shows
By Diane H. Kay

Thanks to Mr. Dean Smith for bringing up the subject of steam and gas
engines.

My grandfather, the late Herman (Harry) Ziegler was an avid collector
of steam and gas engines, regularly driving all around New England and
New York state to attend the shows. He often "dressed up" his engines
by attaching them to various home-made automatons and other moving
toys which usually drew a lot of interest. I don't recall if he ever
hooked up one of his engines to a mechanical music-producing device,
but I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he did do it at one point or
another. That would have been right up his alley.

Harry loved anything and everything mechanical, and it was from him we
inherited two Regina boxes and a Concert Roller Organ, as well as our
own mechanical aptitude. What a great legacy!

Sincerely,
Diane H Kay
