Is Automated Music a Dinosaur ?
By Bob Billings

I couldn't help responding to Craig Brougher's recent comments about
the new electric player systems, such as Disklavier, etc.

Listen to Wayne Stahnke's CDs of piano rolls played through his system,
then tell me they can't sound as good (or better) than pneumatic
reproducing pianos. The musical dreck [filth] which companies like
Yamaha and PianoDisc supply is enough to turn anyone off.

Properly translated piano rolls can sound as good as any reproducer on
an electric player system, and one doesn't have to keep tweaking it to
keep it sounding right. And one can listen to rolls made for any
system, after they have been "MIDIfied".

Wayne Stahnke and Spencer Chase are supplying disks that are excellent
transfers of the original rolls to MIDI, and Wayne in addition has new
music. Listen to some of this stuff and hear the proof.
