Hello all,  Kevin McElhone's question about the distances mechanical
music item have traveled struck me as interesting.  I have always
thought my Steck Duo-Art pumper had an incredible number of miles,
not to mention years, on it.

According to the man I purchased it from, it was manufactured in 1922
in Wales, U.K., and shipped to Australia.  He found it on a porch in
Perth in the late 1960s or early 1970s when he was working there for
Alcoa Aluminum.  He told me he had it "totally rebuilt."  Well, yes,
except for the Duo-Art half which was discarded.  Alcoa shipped it to
the United States when he returned home.  It ended up in Peters
Township, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh.  I purchased it from
him in the 1980s.

The Steck, along with about 100 Mastertouch (Australian) rolls has been
in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania (another south-Pittsburgh suburb) since
then.

According to distances provided by Bali Online,
http://www.indo.com/distance/  it's 9135 miles (14,702 km) from
Cardiff, Wales to Perth, Australia, and 11,361 miles (18,285 km) from
Perth to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  This means my pumper has traveled
20,496 miles or 32,987 km.

Can anyone top that?
