Building a New Piano Case
By Tom Grace

I have a question to pose to all the piano techs and restorers out
there. I have a project coming up that will require me to build a
new cabinet style piano case using an original soundboard and harp.
The question is, "What is the preferred material to build a new
case from?"

I was going to use a lumber core plywood and then add quarter sawn to
the outside, but I can't find lumber core plywood anymore! Should I
just glue up solid material? My concern is that the piano have good
resonance and sound like a vintage piano.

Thanks for all your ideas

Thomas Grace
