Gluing Bilon Pneumatic Cloth
By Barry Dennis

In 1977, shortly after "Bilon" was placed on the market, I purchased
some from Player Piano Company when I was rebuilding my 88 note
Steinway Grand "XR" Duo-Art stack. At the time I was quite skeptical
as to whether the white "plastic glue" which I also purchased from
Player Piano Company, would really hold the Bilon on the pneumatics
over time. In addition, I wondered how long the Bilon would last.

Well, it is now 25 years later, and I have literally played the
piano with this same rebuilt stack almost every single day since the
stack was rebuilt. The piano plays beautifully, the Bilon still looks
like new, and, believe it or not, the "plastic glue", which I never
thought would hold for more than six months, is still holding the cloth
on the pneumatics as strong as ever. So, I guess experience is the
best teacher, and, contrary to my own doubts back in 1977, the Bilon
and the plastic glue worked out just fine.
