As to the hurdy-gurdy, if you want to see one in action, in the old
movie, "Captains Courageous", Spencer Tracy played a hurdy-gurdy and
used it to accompany himself singing some ditties.  It's the only time
I can remember seeing a hurdy-gurdy on the silver screen.
