Music Roll Artist William Merrigan Daly
By Randolph Herr

Does anybody out there have rolls played by William Merrigan (Bill)
Daly? He made a few rolls for both Aeolian and the Red Paper Welte.
The only roll I have is Irving Berlin's "I Love A Piano", played by
Merrigan Daly, on a Keystone recut. It appears that all these rolls
were made around 1912 to 1918.

Although I would like to buy these rolls if possible, I will happily
pay for a tape recording of them. The reason for the search is that
Daly seemingly improvises a marvelous theme in the middle of the roll,
and I am looking for more such improvisations. Daly and Gershwin were
best friends, and that makes the man even more interesting. Any rolls
out there?
