Back in the early 60's I got my first exposure to automatic
typewriters by way of the AutoTypist, a pneumatically controlled
typewriter, based in large part on player piano technology,
using paper rolls 11 1/4".    Later, Phillips came up with their
version, using punched paper rolls only about 4" wide.     Both
were short lived.     The rolls you found most likely contain
standard letters formats that only an operational unit could
use.

Couple months back, a complete AutoTypist appeared on eBay.
Don't know what it went for, but I did capture its companion
pictures, which I've attached.

About 20 years ago, somebody gave me an old rusty AutoTypist
roll frame, which I just recently revived for the purpose of
building a roll scanner.     Couple pictures attached show it
as found, and as it is at this moment, work in progress.
