Learn to Appreciate All Mechanical Music Forms
By Todd Augsburger

As I've been catching up on my reading, I've pondered the thread
about the variety of mechanical music forms. Of course I'm appalled
that although band organs, player pianos, and music boxes are
mentioned, no one mentions organettes <grin>.

Obviously I have a bias toward my own interests, but when Kevin
McElhone can write a book covering some 560 different makes, types
and models of organette, surely this area is worthy of interest to
those who love mechanical music. My _personal_ collection focuses on
a single manufacturer (The Autophone Company) and a single product
line (roller organs) and yet after years of pursuit, I've only
scratched the surface of what's to be discovered!

Of course there are some representative organettes of other styles in
my collection, and I own a couple of small music boxes and a player
piano, and I even keep a few phonographs. But I joined organizations
such as MBSI, AMICA, and COAA, and I participate in MMD to be informed
about ALL mechanical music -- not just the most visible!

So here's a shameless plug: Buy Kevin's book! Expand your horizons.
If you order and find you already knew it all, ask for a refund!
