Ozone smells like the sanitizers that used to be very common (and
are still used sometimes) in public restrooms -- the ones with the
strange violet glow.  That is because they generate ozone to be used
as a disinfectant.

Ozone smells like a nearby lightning strike or electric arc welding
and, most recently, the "Ionic Breeze" air freshener.

Relays that do not arc are sealed mercury relays and solid-state
relays.  I like the solid-state relays because they are quiet and
reliable.
