The Smell of Ozone
By Michael Woolf

Aaaaah! Breathe that ozone!

I seem to recall (altho' it was before even my time) that before the
days of air conditioners, public buildings like hotels and department
stores used ozone generators to create a pleasant atmosphere. A quick
web search reveals that there is at least one company in the US
marketing these today. And I suddenly remembered seeing little ones
around a few years ago -- called "ionizers," and advertised to remove
bad odours and make you healthy.

There are probably folks around collecting and restoring antique
examples. As for the smell of ozone: think yourself by the ocean --
the air is "bracing." Then consider the atmosphere at Niagara Falls.
I believe it has one of the highest concentrations of ions of anywhere
in the world, and can rightly be called "highly charged."
