Deagan Tubular Bell Carillon on Catalina Island
By Eliyahu Shahar

I don't know if it's still in operation, but I read in an AMICA Bulletin
of roughly 15 years ago about a Deagan chimes tower that was installed
on Catalina Island in the 1920's. The island is mostly owned by the
Wrigley family, with a few private homes owned by private parties. The
chimes tower was restored and played beautifully either by rolls or by
a keyboard.

My family and I contacted the gentleman who, at the time, restored and
maintained the chimes. (I don't know if he's still at it or the current
state of the carillon). We took the 26 mile boat-ride to Catalina and
were welcomed warmly and given a tour of the island and shown the
chimes tower and its operation. It was fascinating.
