needed a tracker system".

I think one of the reasons is the core diameter.  Assuming everything
is aligned perfectly, the larger diameter core is inherently 'nicer'
to rolls.  Doesn't it seem like things go bad in a hurry on small cores,
like 88-noters?

The larger diameter spool seems to help the roll along, maybe because
of a gentle angle?  There's also less tempo difference with a larger
diameter spool.  Just a thought.
