Rake & Cant Angles in Music Box Movement
By Albert de Boer

In Jim Heyworth's message regarding cylinder music boxes he refers to
the slight forward bend condition of the cylinder pins as 'canting'.
I always thought that this was called 'raking', and it serves to make
a clear exit of the pin when it has passed the tooth.

[ I don't know which term is most applied to the music box, but both
[ words are useful. cant: a slope, bevel, tilt. rake : inclination
[ away from the perpendicular (the rake of a cutting tool). I suppose
[ the pins are bent to a certain cant angle, while the teeth are ground
[ with a rake angle. Can somebody please clarify? -- Robbie
