John Tuttle asks why some people don't check their e-mail daily.

I use a computer at work all day every day, and there my mail is on
constantly, so I get messages straight away.  At home, however, I do
lots of other things besides 'playing' with my computer -- it's for
leisure, which means I can choose when to use it.  Some days, I choose
not to because I have other things I want to do.

If I am expecting a communication, then I'll go into my study, switch
on, wait ages (seems like) for the PC to boot, then ages again for
Outlook Express to collect my mail.  Then I get rid of all the spam,
and usually find there isn't anything worth reading (except MMD, of
course).

However, when the snail mail drops through the door, it reminds me to
open it, which I can do anywhere in the house, or even take it with
me if I'm going out.

So, if its business e-mail, it will probably get read quickly, but
if its private e-mail at home, you'll just have to wait.  :-)
