Converting T-98 "Green" Welte-Mignon to Licensee
By John McClelland

Greetings all, I had written Grahame Code privately regarding this
issue but thought that it might be helpful to others to respond
publicly.

I had mistakenly mentioned to Grahame that you can use a Green
tracker bar with the Licensee rolls, if it is connected to a Licensee
expression unit. This is stretching it a bit; both tracker bars have
98 holes but the expression tubing and note holes are in different
locations. Therefore one would need some type of switch and
transposing mechanism to shift those holes to the proper locations,
something similar to what the Licensee uprights use to go from 88-note
rolls and back again to reproducing rolls.

In any case, a Licensee expression unit would be needed. It is a
cleaner installation rather than attempting to work with the Green
expression units and cobbling on additional valves for the cancel
units.

I have seen two of these shift/transposer units: one in a Bechstein
Green Welte grand and the other in the Tushinsky multi-system
Vorsetzer. Both required the shift mechanism and used Licensee
expression units.

Best regards,

John McClelland
