Welte Orchestrion at Zaharako's Confectionery
By Terry Smythe

By chance, while browsing this morning, the following extract
from the Evansville, IN., Courier & Press newspaper caught my
attention. By chance, does anybody know anything about this
organ, and if it is a roll player?

Regards,

Terry Smythe

[ The instrument dates from 1908, and so possibly it
[ originally played a barrel, but practically all the big
[ Welte barrel-playing orchestrions were later recalled
[ by the firm and were fitted with a music roll player. See

  Welte Concert Pipe Organ
  By Rich Davis, staff writer

At least once a year, I tell readers about this century-old Greek ice
cream parlor in Columbus, Ind., located on Interstate 65 about 40 miles
east of Bloomington, Ind. Sit down at the 1905 Mexican onyx soda
fountain at lunch to get a malt, a Green River phosphate, a
sarsaparilla, an unusual burger or a sundae with hot fudge sauce made
from scratch. Listen to the 1908 Welte concert pipe organ. The tiny
shop is at 329 Washington St. Call (812) 379-9329.
