Restoring Original Ivory Key Tops
By Terry Smythe

Just had a visit to my personal web site today from a piano
rebuilder in Saskatoon, SK, Canada, who offered the following
comment, perhaps of interest to our group.

I am a craftsman piano tuner/technician in Saskatoon and do complete
refinishings and rebuilds. Just a hint for refurbishing ivories.
I had some custom polishing belts made up by 3M for my belt sander and
they work just super for repolishing ivories. I just use a palm sander
with 400 grit auto body sandpaper to smooth off any scratches or take
off discoloration, then I buff them on the polishing belt. It takes
about 10 seconds polishing per key for a mirror finish.
