ArtEcho Reproducing System Plays Ampico Rolls
By Bill Flynt

Concerning the for sale advert for ArtEcho reproducing piano parts
[030106 MMD]:

The ArtEcho system is so similar to the Ampico system that a simple
retubing of the control channels will allow almost full reproduction of
expression of Ampico rolls. The tracker bar has 100 holes, but neither
pianissimo, nor crescendos will function. My observation, as an Ampico
roll arranger (1970s), is that crescendos will never be missed.

There were many clever features in the ArtEcho system that showed up
later (in one form or another) in Ampico's Model B. Even the rewind
slot played a double role in the system. The stack is almost identical
to Ampico's late style, and the bass/treble division is in the same
place.

This would be a good way to "ungut" a former Ampico piano.
