New Electric Motors for Player Pianos
By Ellsworth Johnson

The postings about rebuilding of a player grand electric motor moved
me to look in my 1999 Johnstone Electric catalog. They show _new_ to
this catalog a good selection of 1140 RPM and 850 RPM motors that are
recommended for compressor uses (high starting torque). For example, a
1/3 HP ball bearing or sleeve bearing model was shown at approximately
$150.

I realize the player grand motors were what I would call a pancake
design and perhaps these I am referring to would not have good
dimensions. Unfortunately, the catalog doesn't show the motor
dimensions exactly but refers to a type of frame which I couldn't
locate the data for. But it should be worth looking into by those
people involved nowadays. It has been approximately 35 years since
I last rebuilt a player grand.
