Reproduco NOS Music Roll Speed
By Tyler J. Smith

Can anyone tell me the proper roll speed for a Reproduco?

Mine has a Player Piano Co. roll frame in place of the original. It is
driven by a Dayton Electric fan motor that runs at 1,200 RPM. There is
about a 5:1 ratio between the pulleys on the motor and the roll frame,
so it is apparently turning at about 240 RPM. To play NOS rolls the
motor pulley is replaced by a smaller one.

Problem: the NOS rolls play very fast. The pulley on the motor is as
small as I can get and there isn't much space to put a bigger one on
the roll frame. I am considering getting a DC motor to replace the
Dayton fan motor. eBay auction has stuff that looks like it might
work, but speed controls are expensive.

I have an old 24V DC power supply. I could run a 24V motor from that
and not worry about speed control if I use the right combination of
pulleys. My question is this: at what RPM did the original roll frames
turn? Any help would be much appreciated.
