Expression Control on Cremona A-Roll Nickelodeon
By Larry Emmons

I hope someone might be able to provide info on how the "Expression"
function on my Cremona II piano was originally connected. I have not
been able to figure out how the intensity pneumatic is controlled.

The instrument works just fine with the 'soft' hole on the tracker
running the pilot valve, which in turn actuates the hammer rail
pneumatic, but what am I missing?

There is this control on the left hand side of the piano, labeled
"Expression", that has three positions: Left labeled 'Soft'. The
outlet port of the switch at 'Soft' is connected to a bleed hole.
The center, unlabeled position has the outlet connected to 'B',
and the right, 'Automatic' position has the outlet connected to 'A'.

The intensity pneumatic, operated by an integral pilot valve, causes
the stack pressure to increase when the pilot is opened, so it makes
no sense to connect this to the 'soft' hole on the tracker.

Is there a 'loud' hole on "A" rolls? I haven't found it yet!

Thanks, Larry Emmons
