If you are considering donating your rolls or piano to a college or
university, think again, and ask them first!

I recently wrote to Cornell University inquiring if they would be
interested in a bequeath of our Ampico reproducing piano for their use
and for students to be able to hear the vast collection of rolls stored
in their archives.  (They have no Ampico to play them on)

Here are two responses:

 "I must reluctantly decline your kind offer to donate your piano
  (is it a Mason & Hamlin; I know that they were most associated with
  Ampico) and rolls to Cornell; they would simply not be used here.
  With kindest regards, Malcolm Bilson"

 "The piano rolls are safely here but I do not have a list of them
  to send you at the moment. ... It is kind of you to offer your
  piano but I do not know if it is something we think appropriate
  for our collection.  Lenore Coral, Music Librarian"

It is obvious that higher forms of education have little regard for
reproducing pianos or know much about them.
