Ivory Transport & CITES Agreement
By Jon Page

Roger, List, It is my understanding that an individual may import
a piano with ivories which can be documented prior to CITES (~ 25 yrs.)
However, a commercial endeavor must meet the 100 year old rule.

I had the unpleasant task of removing a beautiful, one-piece ivory set
from a 1972 Boesendorfer Imperial grand. The dealer had two other pianos
seized by customs in that shipment to remove the ivory because they
were younger than 100 years.

But be on the safe side: document well and check with customs.

Regards,

Jon Page, piano technician
Harwich Port, Cape Cod, Mass.
