Any idiot can see that an old upright or grand player piano is over 30
years old.  They have not been made since 1941.  Most players will not
be over 100 years old yet.  The bureaucrats at Customs are not as smart
as any idiot.  So you have to have your instrument destroyed by removal
of ivory, or you have another choice:

If you need to transport such pianos and wish to avoid all problems,
dismantle the top part of the piano to remove the keys that have ivory
on them.  Box them up and ship them via UPS or other parcel delivery
service.  Then reassemble the piano and send it through Customs.  They
cannot complain about ivory if there is none.
