Storing Leather & Pneumatic Cloth
By Eliyahu Shahar

The subject of old cloth has reminded me of a question that I'd like to
propose to the group. While those who are "in the business" can easily
rotate their stock and have a constant demand for their materials,
my needs are much smaller; yet, when I had to buy full hides of leather,
I found that I had much leather left over from my Ampico restoration
project.

I'd like to be able to save most of it for my next project, which may
be some-time down the road, and would like to know how to treat it in
order to preserve it as best as possible. For example, I had a piece
of pouch leather that was 10 years old, untreated, and when I went to
inspect it recently, I decided not to use it as the leather just didn't
look to be of the quality that I wanted to put into my Ampico. Could
I have saved this by treating it somehow and storing it in an air-tight
bag, for example?
