Barrel Organ Plays on America's Independence Day
By Todd Augsburger

Bob Taylor asked about those who cranked up their organs for
celebrating Independence Day.

Kenton, Ohio, had a reasonably large parade scheduled on July 4th.
I own a 41-key (95 pipe) Bacigalupo street organ but I didn't want to
haul it in the parade, and it wouldn't work to push it. So I picked
a spot on the public square where the parade would pass and where
people were gathered, and played "pre-parade" music.

It attracted an audience of children, adults, friends, and two area
reporters with cameras, both of whom promised to "do a story" in the
near future. I'm still hearing positive comments from complete
strangers -- even though I only had a single barrel with 8 tunes!

So all I can say is "get out there" and play whatever instrument you
have. Someone will appreciate it!

P.S. There were also two small band organs in the parade. Thanks to
others willing to share!
