Swapping Music Roll Treasures
By Neil Ramsay

I have been collecting rolls for nearly three years and have managed
to amass about 180. I reckon about 50 are played regularly (once a
week or so), 100 now and again, and the rest are just taking up space.

Whilst not wishing to undermine the wonderful postal auction systems
we have here in the UK, where I got most of them, it would be great if
(at least here in the UK) we could set up an Internet based exchange
system (Yahoo?). After all, my rejects could well be just the roll
that someone has been searching for.

This might also help with one of the most exasperating things about
roll collecting -- that is, the missing bits of larger pieces. Whilst
I can live with just a single movement of a Beethoven Sonata, I find
it really annoying to be able to play just the last two thirds of
Carnaval, or only the second half of Brahms Handel Variations.

I have managed to keep a music roll database going so far, primarily
to stop me bidding on rolls that I already have!

Best Regards
