QRS 3996 "Wasn't It Nice", James P. Johnson
By Marc Sachnoff

Hello All, Matthew Caulfield had asked in 030921 MMDigest about
"Wasn't It Nice" on a Wurlitzer 180 Roll. I realized that I have this
tune on QRS #3996 played by none other than James P. Johnson. It's
a fine medium tempo performance that swings along with that inimitable
James P. touch. I was tickled to find it, but it wasn't in its
original box and the stenciled roll label is faint. I had never seen
this roll credited to James P. in the rollographies. Does any one
else own a copy? The lyrics are quaintly risque.

[ To help Matthew bound the date: QRS 4385, "Fowler's Hot Strut",
 [ bears catalog date code "928" = September, 1928. QRS 3996,
[ "Wasn't It Nice", played by James P. Johnson, was recut by
[ Don Rand in the 1970s as HW-3003, later as CC-290. -- Robbie
