Gottschalk Piano Roll Research
By Larry Lobel

Hello Ryan, Around the turn of the 20th century, Gottschalk's music
was very popular and many piano rolls of his music were issued by
various companies. "The Last Hope" was by far the most common
composition found on piano rolls. I have a bibliography of Gottschalk
piano rolls, but the one you have is not listed, probably because there
were so many of them that the bibliographer couldn't locate them all.

Since your roll is apparently not a reproducing roll (performed by
well-known artists, issued mainly by the Ampico, Duo-Art, and Welte
companies, which printed the artists' name on the label), it's probably
impossible to trace the performer. I'm a Gottschalk fanatic and have
a lot of information about him; please let me know if I can help in any
way.
