Beater Balls for Seeburg Xylophone
By Don Teach

I have tried contacting just about every company on the 'Net that says
they make wooden balls. Rosewood seems to be a problem. My 7/8-inch
size is another problem, as most all companies make them of 1/2, 3/4,
or 1 inch diameter. Quantity requirements is a third problem. Maple
balls certainly work well in most situations.

My problem is that I am trying to copy an original part and want it to
be perfect. You know, that "over-restore" syndrome. Cost estimates
have gone as high as $10.00 per ball. I have enough rosewood in house
to make them but not the tooling, yet.

In my search for balls on the net I came across an interesting
machinist site that shows a simple tool post for cutting balls on
a lathe: http://bedair.org/Ball/ball1.html
