"Variations on America" by Charles Ives
By Eric Stott

I don't think the "Variations" was recorded in any form during the
piano roll era; Ives did not publish the piece during his lifetime.
I'd be flabbergasted if any piece by Ives was recorded on a piano
roll. During that era he was not a well-known composer at all.

 [ At http://www.loudounsymphony.org/notes/ives-america :
[ "First version of 1891-92 composed for organ. In 1902 he
[ added more variations, ... drawing on the pungent sonorities
[ created by the simultaneous juxtaposition of different keys."

 [ At http://www.musicweb.uk.net/Ives/WK_Organ.htm :
[ "[Organist] E. Power Biggs premiered the work in 1960.
[ He was also the first to record it."
