Misconceptions of B.A.B. Music Rolls
By Michael McNamara

Hi: Larry Villano phoned me last week and asked me to post the
following message on the internet as he doesn't have Internet
service. He said:

"Many people refer to B.A.B. rolls as Artizan rolls. They were not
produced by Artizan but they use an Artizan-style pressure system.
They were produced by B.A.B. organ company of Brooklyn, New York, and
arranged by a musical genius named J. Lawrence Cook. B.A.B. produced
46-key, 48-key, 61-key, 66-key, 82-key, 88-key, 89-key book music and
110-key book music."

B.A.B. music isn't all too popular but I personally enjoy listening to
B.A.B. (as well as Wurlitzer) music while Coney Island's last surviving
wooden carousel (the B&B Carousel on Surf Avenue) turns to the tunes
of a Bruder Apollo band organ playing 66-key B.A.B. rolls. (The band
organ is still playing decently to this day but is in need of some
maintenance and tuning).
